ATTENDEES: 25,000+ (New Year's Eve)
RELATIONSHIP: ESP has designed and built Decadence from its first edition, 15 years running
THE CHALLENGE
Decadence Colorado is one of the largest New Year's Eve festivals in the country, held over two nights at the Colorado Convention Center. Three separate rooms, two mainstages and a combined silent disco and art installation space, have to function as destination experiences simultaneously for 25,000+ attendees. Each room competes with the others for attention. The art installation room has to hold an audience even while two mainstages are running full production a few hundred feet away.
ESP has been the production vendor for Decadence from the first edition. The relationship is now 15 years old and the scope and technical ambition of the installation has grown every year.
WHAT WE BUILT
MAINSTAGE 1 AND MAINSTAGE 2
Full LED and kinetic environments for both mainstages. Overhead LED systems, kinetic rigging, and full MADRIX pixel mapping across both stages. Pre-production design includes full CAD modeling and visualization before load-in begins.
SILENT DISCO STAGE
A silent disco runs three separate audio channels simultaneously. The crowd is fractured by frequency, but the room has to feel unified. We design the LED and lighting environment to do that anchoring work, so the space has energy and presence regardless of which channel someone is tuned into.
ART INSTALLATION
The art installation room is the centerpiece of Decadence's non-stage programming. ESP designs and builds a custom immersive LED environment for this room each year. Most recently, 52 custom-fabricated metal flowers, each 17 feet tall, with integrated pixel-mapped LED running as a unified MADRIX system across all 52 structures. See the dedicated Art Installation case study for full detail.
EXECUTION
Load-in for a multi-hall convention center production of this scale runs over multiple days. Every system is pre-built and tested before it arrives on site. CAD models and rigging plots are shared with the venue's structural team in advance. On show days, ESP operates all systems live across all three rooms simultaneously.
New Year's Eve adds an additional layer of complexity. Strike begins January 2nd and the full load-out is completed in a single day.
THE RESULT
Decadence Colorado is the longest continuous production relationship in ESP's portfolio — 15 years from the first edition. The rooms ESP designs and operates consistently rank among the most attended and most photographed spaces at the event. The art installation room has become a destination within the festival rather than a secondary space.
