MOSIAC ULTRA LOUNGE

TYPE: Commercial AV, Nightclub LED Environment

LOCATION: Kansas City, Missouri

SCOPE: 9 Kinetic LED Rings with Beam Lenses, Pixel-Mapped LED Neon, grandMA3 to MADRIX Integration

THE CHALLENGE

Mosaic Nightclub in Kansas City brought ESP in to design and install the full LED environment for a venue expansion. The scope covered three distinct elements: a kinetic ring system over the dancefloor, pixel-mapped LED neon at both bar areas, and LED neon inlaid into dado grooves in the ceiling structures surrounding the ring array. All three systems needed to run as one unified environment from a single control platform, operated by the venue's lighting team without requiring ESP on-site for day to day shows.

WHAT WE BUILT

9 KINETIC LED RINGS OVER THE DANCEFLOOR

Nine kinetic rings with integrated LED and beam lenses, suspended over the dancefloor with 4 meters of motorized travel. The rings move independently or in coordinated sequences, rising, descending, and hovering at programmed positions in sync with music and lighting cues. With beam lenses integrated into each ring, the visual effect extends vertically through the hazer-filled air above the dancefloor. Nine rings in motion create a dancefloor overhead that shifts the geometry of the room in real time rather than sitting static above the crowd.

LED NEON — INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR BARS

Custom pixel-mapped LED neon wrapping both the interior bar and the exterior bar. Each section of neon is individually addressable, with color, animation, and effects programmable per section or across the full run as a single system. The neon defines the bar areas as architectural features of the room rather than just service points, tying the bar environment into the same visual language as the overhead ring system.

LED NEON — DADO GROOVES IN CEILING STRUCTURES

LED neon inlaid into dado grooves routed into the ceiling structures that surround the kinetic ring array. The dado groove installation recesses the LED neon into the structure itself so the light source disappears and what remains is a clean illuminated line following the geometry of the ceiling framework. The effect integrates the LED environment into the architecture of the room rather than sitting on top of it. Running through MADRIX alongside the bar neon and the ring LED, the ceiling structures become part of the unified programmable environment.

grandMA3 TO MADRIX INTEGRATION

The full system, kinetic rings, ring LED, bar neon, and ceiling structure neon, runs through a grandMA3 to MADRIX integration. The grandMA3 console handles show control and cueing for the kinetic movement and overall show programming. MADRIX handles all pixel mapping across every neon element simultaneously. The two platforms communicate in real time so the lighting operator runs one show from one console and every element in the room responds. The venue's team operates the full system independently on a nightly basis.

EXECUTION

ESP traveled from Denver to Kansas City for the full installation. The venue was closed for the duration of the build, giving the team unobstructed access to the space across five days. Rigging infrastructure for the nine kinetic rings went in first, followed by ring LED and beam lens integration, dado groove neon in the ceiling structures, bar neon runs at the interior and exterior bars, and full power and data distribution across the system. MADRIX programming and grandMA3 integration were completed and tested before the venue reopened.

Five days from an empty room to a fully operational unified system. The venue reopened on schedule.

THE RESULT

Mosaic's dancefloor environment is defined by the kinetic rings, moving overhead structures that shift the geometry of the room in real time. The bar neon and the dado groove ceiling neon tie the full venue together visually, running in the same MADRIX system as the rings so the whole space changes together. The grandMA3 integration means the operator has full control of a complex multi-element environment from a single console, every night, without outside support.
