DECADENCE - FLOWERS

TYPE:  Art Installation, Custom Fabrication

VENUE:  Colorado Convention Center, Denver

STRUCTURES:  52 custom metal flowers, 17 feet tall

CONTROL:  Pixel-mapped LED, unified MADRIX system

CONTEXT:  Silent disco and art installation room, Decadence Colorado NYE

THE CHALLENGE

The art installation room at Decadence Colorado has to function as a destination within a festival that includes two full mainstages. On New Year's Eve, 25,000 to 30,000 attendees are choosing between three simultaneous rooms. The art room cannot be a secondary experience — it has to be somewhere people specifically want to go.

The 52-flower installation was designed to fill the room with a dense, immersive overhead canopy that reads as a unified environment from every point in the space. At 17 feet tall and distributed across the full floor, the flowers create an environment that feels fundamentally different from anywhere else in the festival.

WHAT WE BUILT

52 CUSTOM METAL FLOWERS — 17 FEET TALL

52 custom-fabricated metal flower structures, each 17 feet tall, designed and built to ESP's specifications. The scale was intentional. Flowers at eye level would be decorative. At 17 feet they become an environment. 52 of them across the room create an overhead canopy that defines the entire space from the moment you walk in.

LED INTEGRATION

Each flower has pixel-mapped LED integrated into the structure, running through the petals and stem. Every structure is individually addressable and fully programmable. Before the MADRIX control layer is even considered, 52 individually mapped structures represent a significant LED system on their own.

MADRIX CONTROL — UNIFIED SYSTEM

All 52 flowers run as one unified MADRIX system. Color washes sweep from one side of the room to the other. Patterns radiate outward from a central flower. The full canopy responds to the music in real time. At a certain point the 52 individual structures stop reading as separate objects and the room just feels alive.

EXECUTION

Custom fabrication at this scale for a temporary installation creates a specific set of constraints that a permanent install never has to account for. The structures have to be engineered to transport from storage to the convention center, assembled by a crew on a load-in timeline, operate reliably across two show nights with 25,000+ people in the room, and strike cleanly on January 2nd in a single day.

Every connection point, every joint, and every LED integration point has to hold up through repeated assembly and disassembly across multiple years. These flowers go up and come down every December. The engineering has to account for that cycle, not just the two nights they're running.

MADRIX programming and full system testing happen before load-in begins. By the time the flowers are in the air, the system is already proven. Show-day is not the time to find problems in a room with 25,000 people waiting outside.

THE RESULT

The 52-flower room at Decadence has become a destination that people seek out specifically rather than discover accidentally. The combination of custom fabrication, LED integration, and unified MADRIX control creates an environment that cannot be replicated by any off-the-shelf product combination.
